Workshops
As part of Social Making Actions for Agency – Generative Practice During Paradigm Shifts we will be holding four workshops across the two days. Each delegate will be split into a workshops rotation group, and will get the opportunity to attend each workshop in the particular order assigned to their rotation group (across the two days).
Centering citizens in your cultual work
Citizens In Power will lead a workshop to explore citizen-led decision-making in the context of citizens’ juries and citizens’ assemblies. When we say citizens we refer to people who live, work or stay in a place I.E. everyone. Our workshop will explore where citizen-led decision-making sits in the context of other forms of participation and engagement. It will also explore some of the key components of citizen-led decision-making including a “mandate” for decision-making, the “random selection” of people for decision-making groups, and the “deliberative” process of decision-making. We will attempt to give Social Making participants a practical experience of these three elements and you can tell us whether we succeed or not!
Considering Intersectionality in your work
with

This workshop will focus on practical ways to think about intersectional working, prioritising care, working with risk and how counterculture can create more inclusive practice.
Asset Based Community Development and the Take A Part approach
with
Take A Part
In this workshop, you will learn the basics of an Asset Based Community Development approach to creative commissioning from the team at Take A Part. As well, you will learn tips and tricks used by Take A Part to capacity-build in communities so that the work you start is generative and sustainable.
Blue Sky Thinking
This lightweight artistic intervention, allows time for you to take a breather and think with your hands for a moment. Soak in the rays of what you would like to take away with you and breathe out what you need to rest aside. This workshop involves light interactions with painting, crafting, thinking, digesting & sharing.
Over the hour, Meg will guide you through :
PAINTING BLUE SKIES – We have the option to create what is missing. And the act of creating unlocks a different level of thinking. Meg painted a blue sky from her window sill every day she needed one during the pandemic. This act encourages thoughts to grow and limitations to be banished for a wee while. Think big. What utopian art world would you like in our social landscape? Paint. Think big. The sky is the limit.
CLOUD MAKING – Just as we can paint the sky blue. We often create the clouds above our own heads and our own arts practice. Let us come together collectively to create a cloud whipped up with solutions and starting points for action and change, as opposed to oppressive greying feelings of self generated doubt.
DIGESTING THE ACTION PLAN – A moment to taste the future & think of a small step forward. A small impactful change that has the potential to ripple out beyond St Anne’s House.
SILVER LININGS – The sky is filled with them. Let’s take a moment to reflect on all the silver we see around us. All that glimmers.
